| On the Elven Battle Line. A historical examination. Extract from the Tactica of Faltereh NightstrideThe elven battle line has the origin in the Battle of Crossroads. The Sentinels got word that their allies, the Crimson Eagle are planning an abmbush at the Crossroads, an Orc military encampment in the Barrens. They arrived to the battle at a desperate situation, where the Eagles were pushed form the village to the east. The arrival of the Sentinels turned battle, but the allies didnt want to break into the town, only to force the Horde to come out. So they formed a solid battle line to the north of the town. Securing a rout to Ashenvale for disengage. Since the Sentinles were composed mainly by archers, Árín, the Commander of the Sentinel Army set up a line of archers, as a fundament of his battle line. This line had so much firepower, that it kept the horde at bay, unable to cross field the deadly volleys of elven archers. On this fundament lied the possibility of succesful charges what drived the Horde back into the town several times. | |

| Well son of a... Very nice. Now, how about the battle where the archer line completely failed... so did everything else we tried. At the end of the day, horde had one casualty - a rogue that got caught ahead of the pack, strolling between our lines | |

(( Where everything fails the line can fail as well. It wasn't the superweapon, but sometimes it was effective, sometimes just fun. When we faced Pulse at Orgrimmar they had at least 3 or 4 members above rank 11, they had PvP epics. we had no chance, we had only a few lvl 60 at that time, we didnt even had raid epics. Not to mention that they attacked without PvP flag turned on...))

| The Sentinel in war. Or How to Use Power to Compel the Opponent to the Laws of Nature. Extract from the introductory chapter of Tactica
Part One. On War
Chapter 1. On the Nature of War
1. Definition
War is an act of violence to compel our opponent to the will or law of the Nature.
2. Explanation a. I say war is a an act of violence because its consist in the usage of power. War is existing between two or more established fractions. Established here means a fraction with definitive laws and rules, where viloence is either non-existing or existing in a lawful manner. In this case the only usage of power is a usage according to the established laws. But between two established fraction there is no established law. The only possible usage of power is an act of violence, that is: a non-lawful (the only law exist between the established fraction is the law of Nature) usage of power.
b. I say this act of violence has as goal to compel our opponent, because the ultimate goal of war is not the destruction of our opponent.
c. I say the goal of the War is to compel our opponent to the laws of the Nature, because it is not our will to what we compelling our opponent, but the laws of Nature. Nature is where we find Elune, Nature is the clearest expression of Elune, and this expression take the form of laws.
Chapter 2. The Nature of the Power we use in War
1. Definition In war the wisest usage of violence is according to laws of Nature.
2 Explanation Nature is a complex Being. Complexity means a being where the part and whole play a mutual role. Nature is the whole, but the whole is just made up by the parts. The wisest usage of power in war is a complex usage, where the Sentinel Army and the individual sentinel mutually define each other.
Chapter 3. Against Zerg.
The military tactic known as “Zerg” consist in a tactic where two or more fractions try to compel each other by means of brute force and chaos. In “Zerg” the individual is never a part of the whole, he or she is using violence for him- or herself, not for the whole. Consequently the Zerg tactic contradicts the laws of Nature.

| The Battle of Ashenvale extract from the TacticaOne of the biggest battles between the Orgrimmar Orc Regiment and The Darnassus Sentinels was the battle of Ashenvale. I quote here one of the commanding officers there, the young Faltereh Nightstride, charged of leading the first part of the battle. "The battle started at Astranaar as a defense, later as counterattack. The Sentinels decided to give up the defensive position they occupied at the southern Astranaar bridge, and started a slow advance in full scale battle line. This night our battle line showed itself in full might and glory. We had some enlisted with us who havent got the opportunity to practice the proper formation, but they did really well, and at the end they were able to fight in line. I had the honor to lead the line as aspiring captain of the Sentinel Army. After that Elloa, Lady of The Darnassus Sentinels, decided to form a small detachment of relatively inexperienced ((to equalize the odds)), something what seemed clearly unsatisfactory for Árín, Commander of the Army, who feared that the Regiment might bring reinforcement. So Árin formed a cavalry force based on the veteran sentinels and started a flanking manouver. The events proved that the Commander was right. The Regiment got reinforcement and clearly owerpowered the small detachment lead by the Lady. Luckily the cavalry was able to turn the tide, though it arrived too late to save the detachment. This clash was followed by a regroup of forces, and an ambush set up by Árín, the master of this art. Though the ambush was neatly planned, some disturbance in the chain of command, and the fast progress of the Regiment with the aid of powerful allies resulted that the Sentinel ambush was ruined and the forces of the elves retreated in chaos until the Commander was able to reestablish order and prepare the defense of Astranaar. But it seemed that the Regiment also suffered heavy casulties and did not venture forth to attack Astranaar again." In the first part of the operation The sentinel Army was on offensive, with a slow adwancement of the line always in formation, then a fast advance to the Falfarren, threatenining Splintertree: 1. defesive position at the bridge of Astranaar. 2. The advance of the the line and confrontation with the Regiment 3. Continous advance then the split of forces. 4. Elloa is outnumbered, Árín comes to help with the cavalry The second half was a withraw then a retreat and a regroup for defense of Astranaar. Árín set up the regroup area to the south of the town, planning an ambush against the surprised attackers having the Sentinel Army on their back 5. defensive position at the Falfarren bridge 6. Ambush site made up by Árín 7. Regroup area after defeat. | |
